Our Mission as NLSA

The purpose of the Nonprofit Leadership Student Association at Western Michigan University is to assist members to reach competency levels provided by the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance, to fundraise for the annual conference, and to provide future nonprofit leaders with contacts and resources that will help them in their future careers.

This summer Genelle Monger, pictured right, who is majoring in Global & International Studies and minoring in Nonprofit Leadership, Psychology, and Dance was awarded the Next Generation Nonprofit Leaders Internship Stipend from the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance. This competitive award was based on essays about her civic leadership and how her internship will advance her professional goals. Her goal is to work for an international nonprofit in relief programs. Tillers was a natural choice and she won one of the nationally competitive stipends.

Tillers International, whose mission is to preserve, study, and exchange low-capital technologies that increase the sustainability and productivity of the people in rural communities, envisions an international learning community where there is an understanding of local conditions, an attitude of experimentation, and the promise of rural sustainability.

Besides learning about sustainable farming, Genelle is researching volunteer management programs and beginning to develop a system of tracking, managing, training, and supporting Tiller’s numerous volunteers.
